Botox/Dysport Pre and Post Instructions at Noor Laser Center in Columbia and Catonsville MD

Before your Appointment:
- Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and high doses of vitamin E for 7-10 days prior to procedure, as these may cause increase risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).
- Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising at the treated site.
- If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform the Nurse/Provider.
- Always inform your provider of all medications, including supplements you may be taking as well as your medical history.
After your Appointment:
- Remain upright for 4 hours after injection (you may lie in a reclined position, just do not lay flat)
- Do not massage or manipulate injected areas for 24 hours after injections. This can cause BOTOX/DYSPORT to migrate to the other muscles increasing the risk of complications.
- Exercise the muscles every 15 minutes for one hour after the treatment (make exaggerated facial expressions)
- Do not wear a headband or hat where the band goes across your forehead for 24 hours if you have had injections between the brows or in the forehead.
- Refrain from aerobic exercise that increases your heart rate greatly (running, swimming, bicycling, etc…) for 24 hours following injections. Walking or other low-impact forms of exercise are fine
- Avoid facials, massages where your face is in a cradle, microneedling, laser treatments, etc. for 2 weeks following the injection.
- Refrain from using ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil supplements, or vitamin E for 24 hours following injection.
- The most common side effect is headache with Botox injections. You may use Tylenol to relieve this.
- Botox/Dysport will gradually take effect over 4-10 days with the optimum result at 2 weeks.
